Course Overview

This video is an overview of our Introduction to Project Finance Modeling Course. This course is currently only delivered by instructors via zoom or in person.

The Great News is that it will soon be available as an online course

The Intro to Project Finance course is designed for beginning modelers and individuals who may not build models every day but for whom an understanding of project finance models and concepts is critical to decision making. The course utilizes a model for a solar or wind project but covers a broad set of topics such that it is also suitable for those in other project finance sectors such as power or mining.

Video Transcript

Project finance is a highly structured and complex deal type.

If you want to learn more about project finance or infrastructure and energy finance, this is the course for you.

Perhaps you’re a student seeking to learn what is required to get a job in project finance or an energy and infrastructure finance, or you could be an accountant or an engineer or a project developer in the industry seeking to understand why the finance teams ask certain questions of you or gain a bigger picture view of the deals you work on. This course is a lighter touch of our full project finance modeling courses.

We focus on the core concepts around how these deals are structured. We use simpler financial models that help explain the impact of assumption changes on deal economics. You’ll get to build an annual model from scratch. We will explain how deals are structured and use practical examples so you can apply your knowledge right away.

This course will teach you the corporate form and risks of project finance transactions, how to set up a project finance model, and forecast your revenues and costs using a renewable energy deal as the basis, how to structure and to size project finance term loans, introduce you to reporting tax concepts and calculations. How to determine the required tariff or the price of your project output to achieve target returns for the investor. How to efficiently run “what if” analysis known as scenarios and sensitivities. Gain a basic understanding around the contents of legal agreements and deals and the outputs required to actually make an investment decision.
