If you want to learn how to build and analyze financial models for the mining and critical minerals industry, you’ve come to the right place.

This Pivotal180 course is what we call an industry course. We consider it an add-on to our other project finance modeling courses. It’s geared towards people who can already build a project finance model and want to focus on the specifics related to the mining industry in a simple and practical manner.

You will learn how to model mining operations with low and high grade ore mining, strip ratios, and calculations of the average mined copper grade. Processing calculations based on a limited plant capacity with a ramp up, stockpiles, and processing recoveries. Revenue calculations for sales of the product at market or spot prices with hedging via forward contracts. You’ll model operating costs for mining, processing, transportation, and rehabilitation fixed and variable costs. You’ll also review the cashflow waterfall, debt sizing with cash sweeps or cash sharing, and debt ratios, such as the debt service coverage ratio, or DSCR, the loan life coverage ratio, or LLCR, the project life coverage ratio, or PLCR, and finally, the reserve life coverage ratio, or RLCR. You’ll also look at what we call pre-operational cash flows and their impact on funding during the construction period among many other topics.

Note that for this industry course, we only do the coding calculations related to the mine’s operations. We will complete relevant operational calculations and also run sensitivities so you can clearly see and review the impact of changes in assumptions on outputs. When you buy this or any other Pivotal180 course, you gain access to the online course platform. This is a great ongoing resource with videos, subtitles, transcripts, slides, and quizzes. You will also become a member of our Pivotal180 Alumni Learning community, where you continue to ask questions or participate in discussions that are important to you.

You have three options for how to take the Mining & Critical Minerals course.

Number one, do the online self-paced course. Just sign up and complete it at your own pace.

Number two, join a public instructor-led class. This could be in person or via several three-hour Zoom sessions. This version also includes access to the online self-paced course, but it does allow for more discussion.
